‘Towards open, fair and sustainable Europe in the World’ was our guiding statement for the past few months, during this very special period of the first Romanian Presidency at the Council of the EU (1st January – 30th June 2019). FOND Romania has begun the implementation of the EU Presidency Project in November 2018, thus being the ice-breaker of the first joint European project on development cooperation within the context of the current trio of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

As our main period of implementation has come to an end, and we have already passed the baton to our colleagues in the Finnish NGO platform for development – Fingo, the best way to celebrate this busy period of events and the impact of FOND’s national awareness raising campaign on the 2030 Agenda, was to gather our member organisations, collaborators and interested peers for one last event.

Call for Celebration: Looking back on the achievements of FOND Romania during the EU Presidency Project was our last event, which took place on the 25th of July, in a very familiar setting. Our Director, Ms. Adela Rusu, warmly welcomed the guests and expressed her gratitude to everyone involved in carrying out this project with success. Ms. Ana-Maria Apopei, Coordinator of the EU Presidency Project activities in Romania, joined for introducing the main results and reflection thoughts on that matter.

All of our planned events were successfully completed. We held a Seminar in Brussels, for which we benefited from all the support from on the part of the Permanent Representation of Romania to the EU, organized the Civil Society Forum in partnership with the Department for Sustainable Development in Bucharest, hosted for the first time in Romania CONCORD’s Hub1 Meeting and spent 3 productive days at the Romanian Development Camp. Today finds us here, celebrating all our successes.` – Ana-Maria Apopei, EU Presidency Project Coordinator in Romania

Multi-stakeholder partnerships and youth involvement in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda were cross-cutting subjects which served as basis for all our events. What we mostly followed during the EU Presidency Project was to bring at the same table all the relevant actors in development cooperation and facilitate partnerships, offer a space for reflection and mobilize the civil society around the 2030 Agenda. At the same time, this project was a fitting opportunity to raise awareness regarding the Sustainable Development Goals and increase public support for the 2030 Agenda in Romania. FOND succeeded to reach over 5% of Romania’s population through our member organisations, that campaigned for an open, fair and sustainable Europe in the World for the last 6 months.
